Fantastic article, Joel. I have been following your work through P31 and T&T for years (my life has been deeply impacted by you, Jim, and Lysa’s deep dives into biblical truth). However, as a mom raising three boys this content might just be my favorite! It has helped me answer so many of my boy’s questions as we spend time connecting and watching HOD together. Thank you for taking the time to create such informed, theologically wrestled, and well written articles!

Why are believers forever wanting to be “entertained” with Biblical narratives by tv/movie producers who have no alternative but to fill in the blanks with often times dubious at the least and nefarious/scandalous at the worst surmisings of what “could have happened?” God has revealed to us what He in His SUPREME WISDOM wanted us to know and apply ourselves to. We should be about that, rather than applying ourselves to fanciful “what if she was a mistress?”; “ what if David was illegitimate?”; “what if David was disrespectful?” and on and on and on? Do those things somehow make us feel more comfortable with our own sin (as if there wasn't enough of it already in the Bible!). The modern-day Christian, sadly seeks more and more entertainment, and because Hollywood offers us sex, profanity and violence, we turn to “Christian” entertainment which adds to God’s Word, whether we think harmlessly or egregiously - no matter. God has directed us not to do so.
